As the American presidential campaign heats up, the question of who will win becomes more hotly debated. And while Donald Trump had some early successes, it seems the shine is starting to wear off as voters begin turning their attention to the serious contenders.
Among them, of course, is Hillary Clinton, who was Barack Obama’s running mate during the 2008 campaign and is now running against Bernie Sanders for the Democratic vote.
It’s no secret that Hillary has had her eye on the top job for some years now, and if any woman can become the first female President of the United States, it’s her.
Her sheer tenacity and drive has gotten her this far, but will the stars align for her on the day American voters go to the polls?
Firstly, let’s look at her chart. Astrodienst gives two charts for Hillary, one with a Scorpio Ascendent and the other with a Gemini Ascendent. I’m going with the Gemini Rising chart for many reasons. First of all, the Ascendent is the persona or the ‘mask’ we wear. It is also how other people see us. Gemini Rising is the sign of the communicator and whether working as a lawyer or a politician, Hillary is all about communicating. She is also fiercely intelligent, witty and able to come up with funny retorts off the top of her head. Back in 2000, when her husband’s reputation was in ruins following the Monica Lewinsky debacle, a reporter asked Hillary if she had ever taken a stress-test, to which Hillary quipped: “I’m having one now!” That’s a classic Gemini Rising trait.
So having Gemini Rising would also put her Midheaven in Pisces. This again rings true. As the truth about Bill’s affairs became public knowledge, Hillary was first cast as a ‘victim’ and later a ‘survivor.’ The Midheaven is one’s professional standing and those with their Midheaven in Pisces can often be seen as victims. Her inability to always be truthful and to bend the facts to suit herself unfortunately is also a Pisces Midheaven trait. But so is her need to better the lives of those less well-off than herself and she has been a strong advocate for women’s rights and a more democratic education system that doesn’t simply favour the children of the rich.
Her Moon is also in the Tenth, symbolising that she is well-liked by her public. Her biographers have often observed that Hillary seems tough outside, but soft inside. Her no-nonsense, tough talking Scorpio Sun and Mercury often cover the fact that her Pisces Moon makes her more vulnerable to criticism and harsh comments than she might otherwise let on.
I won’t go into her entire chart, but suffice to say, Mars, Saturn and Pluto all in her third house add to her intellectual sharpness and with Pluto especially, her words have a powerful and transformative effect on people.
But is all this enough to win her the presidency?
On the day of the election- 8 November 2016- the Sun and Mercury will be in her own sign of Scorpio, giving her some extra support.
The Moon will be in her 9th house in Aquarius. The 9th is associated with politics, among other things, and Aquarius is associated with the ‘outsider.’ The US chart itself has the Moon in Aquarius, so perhaps all of those marginalised Americans who feel they are not being listened to by Republicans- women, African-Americans and other minorities may decide that Hillary is the one who will best serve their interests.
There are some interesting things happening in her 10th house on that day. Both Chiron and Neptune are there as they have been for the past few years. Most people are fearful of Chiron, knowing that it is the ‘wounded healer.’ But when Chiron transits a house, issues associated with that house that have led to some kind of wounding can at last be healed.
In the 10th, these issues revolve around the subject’s career, their public image and social standing. There’s no doubt that Hillary’s defeat to Obama in 2008 was a crushing blow for her career ambitions, and the psychological ‘wounding’ she felt must have been great. Now once again, she is stepping up to the plate in the hope that her long-held dreams of becoming President will be realised.
Chiron in Pisces represents sacrifice, but it is also associated with having great compassion for those who are disadvantaged or downtrodden. If Hillary can let her armour slip just a little and show more of that heartfelt compassion of which she is capable, I believe she stands a very strong chance of winning.
