Recently, I was doing a chart for a client who was new to astrology. She had just moved to Melbourne from Korea, and was looking for factory work whilst she was over here. She had done factory work in her homeland, and wanted to do the same thing in Melbourne because, as she said: “The pay is good.”
Now I have no qualms if this is really what she wants to do, but she is a young, intelligent, 21-year-old and I couldn’t help feeling she could do so much more with her life.
Her North Node was in Aquarius in the 12th, which showed she had a strong humanitarian streak and the ability to tap into the collective conscious. As I began explaining this to her, she told me how she would love to organise an event that brought people together on a massive scale for a good cause. I suggested to her that she might like to be an events planner or something similar, and her face suddenly lit up. She became very animated as she recalled a concert she had been to in Korea, and how she had loved the atmosphere that so many people in the one place generated. I encouraged her to look into the idea of being an events coordinator more closely, as this seemed to be something she had always wanted to do, but had never pursued seriously.
But when I spoke to her the other day, she was still waiting to hear back about an interview for a factory job she had gone for, and hadn’t done anything more about wanting to become an events coordinator.
So often when I am doing readings, I meet people who resist their true calling as indicated by their North Node, for the sake of living a “safe” life- and I find this very depressing, and at times, truly heart breaking. And yet, I understand why this is. It is because our North Node represents to us the secret goals and dreams we have always had, but find difficult to act on. In order to achieve our North Node reality, we must make the decision to drastically change our life course completely and for many people, this is a scary thing to do.
We may worry what would happen if we ever acted on these long-held cherished dreams. What would we be willing to sacrifice to make the dream a reality? Financial security? Acceptance from friends and family who may not understand why we suddenly feel the need to do something totally different with our lives? Something that makes our heart sing, and our face light up when we talk about it, like my Korean friend? No, for many of us the risk is too great, and so we keep our North Node dream locked in our heart, and there it remains- secure, but unreachable.
So we spend years working in a bookshop instead of writing that great novel we always felt we had inside of us (North Node in the 3rd). We spend all our spare time reading up on a place we’ve always wanted to live, instead of booking that ticket and relocating. ( North Node in the 9th).
I would just like to point out that the North Node isn’t necessarily about finding the career that’s right for you, although it can help with this. When I say ‘true calling,’ I am talking about having something in your life that you really love, and that makes you deliriously happy. When you have that, you’ve found the right path to achieving your North Node destiny.
