Here’s a little experiment that I thought you might like to try. In astrology, the North Node is like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. By cultivating the more positive traits of the sign our North Node resides in, we can become happier, more confident people and leave behind the old habits that hold us back as represented by our South Node sign.
So just for one day, pretend you are the sign your North Node is in. If your NN is in Libra, then pretend you are a Libran. Read up on the good qualities associated with this sign, and then try to incorporate those traits into your personality for a day. So the positive expression of this placement would be developing traits like diplomacy, fairness and tolerance for others. By surrounding yourself with beautiful things, ie. flowers, paintings, colours you love, you are getting in touch with Venus, the ruler of Libra, and moving away from the aggressive Mars energy of your Aries South Node.
If you’re not sure where your North Node is, go to astro.com. Once you have signed in, go to Free Horoscopes>Extended Chart Selections>Natal Chart. Your NN will look like the glyph for Leo but with a ‘T’ in it. Check the sign, house and any aspects it makes to other planets in your chart. If you are wondering where the South Node is, it’s rarely included in astrology charts, but it is always exactly opposite your NN, eg, NN in Virgo in the 2nd/ SN Pisces in the 8th.
So now you know where your NN is, here’s a run-down on how to make it work for you.
North Node in Aries/ South Node in Libra
With this placement, you are learning to put yourself forward and not be so reliant on others for validation and approval. Early conditioning has given you a “don’t rock the boat” mentality, and so you continue to let others treat you badly or unfairly, because you dislike confrontation so much. Standing up for yourself and becoming an individual in your own right is what this NN is all about. You could be an inspirational leaders to others if you would only trust yourself more. Stop worrying about what other people think of you or whether or not they like you. Blaze your own trail and others will follow your lead.
North Node in Taurus/ South Node in Scorpio
NN in Taurus people often have issues of unworthiness and low self-esteem stemming from a crisis in childhood. No matter how successful these people become, they always get the feeling they do not deserve it. Emotional and material security mean a lot to you. It is what makes you feel safe and secure. Yet, by indulging in destructive behaviour that threatens your security, you are setting yourself up for failure. Beware of being miserly regarding money or affections.
North Node in Gemini/ South Node in Sagittarius
An inability to listen to others and the need to always be right are traits the NN Gemini needs to move away from. These people love communicating, but may overly identify with their own ideas, causing them to react in a defensive manner when others disagree with them. The NN Gemini is learning to really connect with others in this lifetime. By accepting other’s points of views without trying to change them, they can have much better relations with those around them.
North Node in Cancer/ South Node in Capricorn
The lesson for NN Cancerians to learn in this lifetime is that by nurturing others they are also nurturing themselves. As children, or in past life incarnations, these people may have had responsibility thrust upon them too early, with the result that they were always looking after someone else, and their own emotional needs were ignored or unacknowledged. In previous lives, these people gained recognition by taking charge of others and being in control. In this lifetime, they need to feel they can depend on others, and be more open about their feelings.
North Node in Leo/ South Node in Aquarius
Previous experiences have made these people watchful when expressing themselves or their feelings with others. But in this life, they are meant to come in from the cold and bask in the sunshine. Recieving attention for their efforts can make them uncomfortable, but by developing Leo traits such as self-confidence, creative expression and playfulness, they can make a positive change to the lives of others.
North Node in Virgo/ South Node in Pisces
Order, routine and attention to detail may all be things that the NN Virgo initially avoids at all costs, but which they need to develop if they are to let go of the negative traits of a SN Pisces. These people may drift through life with no clear direction or meaning to it, until they realise that by doing this they are wasting their potential. Escapist tendencies and playing the victim need to be curbed. Helping others and fully participating in their own lives.
North Node in Libra/ South Node in Aries
NN Librans need to develop better relationships with others in order to recieve the benefits of this placement. A tendency to go it alone and resist intimate relationships with others only leaves them feeling lonely and isolated. By becoming more patient and tolerant of others, they learn important skills in relating, and that is essentially what this placement is all about.
North Node in Scorpio/ South Node in Taurus
Placing too much importance on acquiring money and possessions is the undoing of those with this placement. By exhibiting the healthier traits of Scorpio they learn to let go of their fear of change, realising that the end of something- a relationship, a change of address etc. leads to new opportunities and the chance to renew one’s life.
North Node in Sagittarius/ South Node in Gemini
Gossiping, pointless arguing and talking for the sake of it are the kind of old habits that NN Sagittarians need to replace with more meaningful ones. These people are naturally very clever and have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, but by scattering their energies and focus, they deprive themselves of learning anything in-depth. Becoming less superficial in their interactions with people is something they need to work towards.
North Node in Capricorn/ South Node in Cancer
Feelings of abandonment and being unloved torment those with NN in Capricorn. They feel safest in a home environment, surrounded by familiar things and people, but they need to get out into the world and show others how capable they really are. Being overly dependent on emotional support from loved ones can leave them feeling dissapointed, especially if the love they need isn’t there. Developing Capricorn traits such as fortitude, determination and worldly ambition is the key to achieving one’s goals.
North Node in Aquarius/ South Node in Leo
In many of their past lives, these people were probably royalty and/or held positions where they had immense power over others. Authority comes naturally to them, but now they must learn to be more inclusive and to treat people as equals rather than inferiors. A tendency to talk down to others and a dislike for having their orders questioned needs to be tempered by a more democratic approach. Taking a genuine interest in those from different stratas of life will open up new experiences for those with NN in Aquarius.
North Node in Pisces/ South Node in Virgo
The NN Pisces type may be too preoccupied with cold hard facts and the reality of the here and now, completely ignoring anything mystical or fantastical. But by injecting a little bit of magic into their daily lives, they can become more in touch with their spiritual side. Cultivating Piscean traits such as selflessness, imagination, and the ability to merge seamlessly with others can bring its own rewards.
So there you have it. If you’re just learning about the North Nodes, I hope you found the above useful. The main rule to remember is: Avoid the negative traits of your South Node sign and have fun with the positive traits of your North Node sign.
If you do the experiment I mentioned, let me know how it went. I really love doing these posts, and hearing back from the people who read them.
