There are many things to consider when looking at the charts of two people to determine if they might be “made for each other.”

Today, we’ll look at the synastry of a celebrity couple who seem to have that special something that keeps them together.

Although the Duke and Duchess and Cambridge have only been married since 2011, they have been together as a couple since 2003. And despite their ups and downs-and a very public break-up in 2007- they appear to the world to be a solid couple, completely devoted to each other. So what brought these two together in the first place?

Well, for any relationship to get off the ground, there has to be some degree of physical attraction to each other and we can see there is with these two as there is an Air sign trine between William’s Mars and Catherine’s Venus. Mars-Venus aspects are always a good indicator of that initial sexual attraction, although being in Air it lacks the passion that would accompany it if they were in, say, Fire signs.

Catherine’s Venus in Aquarius played it cool until she was sure of William, and his Libra Mars, although capable of being romantic, would have weighed up the pros and cons of being in the relationship before he made his move.

Being born only six months apart, William and Kate have quite a few signs in common, and therefore they are usually on the same page. They both have Mars in Libra only 1 degree apart, so they express their anger in the same way and have similar attitudes when it comes to work and sex. I have often found that when a couple have incompatible Mars signs, their different fighting styles can cause a lot of discord within the relationship, but it seems that in this regard they are perfectly in sync.

One of the “soul mate” aspects of astrology is when one person’s Sun is in the same sign as the other person’s Moon, and again they are lucky in this respect. Although the degrees are too far apart to make an aspect, William has his Sun in Cancer and Catherine has her Moon there.

As a Windsor, family and home life were always going to be important to William and his Sun in Cancer proves this. Any woman he chose to become his wife would have to feel the same, and it is obvious Catherine has strong ties to her family as well. William’s Moon in its own sign of Cancer drives this point home even further. Family life makes both of them feel secure and nurtured, and therefore, it is an integral part of who they are as a couple.

In terms of intellectual compatibility, again they are well suited, as William’s Mercury in Gemini makes a close trine to Catherine’s Mercury in Aquarius. Exchanging ideas and opinions on a range of topics, and the occasional mental sparring helps to strengthen the bond between them. Neither of them would be happy with an uncommunicative partner who wasn’t willing to contribute intellectually to the relationship.

And what are the chances of them staying together as a couple? Very good, I would say. Williams’s Saturn is only six degrees off Kate’s and it also makes a (wide) trine to her Venus in Aquarius. Saturn-Venus aspects in synastry are a good indication of a marriage or relationship in which both people are willing to commit fully to each other and do everything necessary to build a stable, loving union between them that will endure.

For me, their Saturn in Libra is out there for all to see. Not only in the gracious, united front they present to the world, but also in the deep sense of duty and commitment that defines their relationship. They both feel a strong sense of duty, not only to each other and the traditions that come with being part of the Royal family, but also in their public engagements and the good works they do on behalf of different charities.

After the disastrous marriages of Charles and Diana, and Andrew and Fergie, it is great to see a Royal couple who truly are compatible with each other. It is so obvious William and Catherine have a genuine love and affection for each other, based on mutual understanding and interests, rather than being more or less “thrown together” as Royal couples were in the past.
